"Thank You President Bush...for Keeping Us Safe!" Bumper Sticker

There is much to criticize about the 43rd president. While he understood enough about economics to stick to his guns on tax cuts (the 'everyone gets $500' stimulus checks were useless-but the rate reductions really helped) he surely did not understand enough to limit government spending..at all. In fact, he set a precedent for spending which was so profligate that, in order to surpass it, the succeeding administration would have to literally commit financial suicide. They've risen to the challenge. Whether or not that's a good thing depends on your view of extremes leading to opposite reactions. But it all (the "stimulus", the "bailouts") started with Bush. Add to that his stubbornness in sticking to mediocre staff and a failing strategy in Iraq and you can pretty much rule him off of Mount Rushmore. Then there's his utter lack of communications skills. So, great ideas (like social security reform) went nowhere.

But Bush's annoying stubbornness kept the country safe for 7 years. It is incumbent upon Free Market Warriors (and all patriots) to appreciate the good even flawed leaders have done. To succumb to the popular pressure and discard everything of "W" would be profoundly wrong. Besides which, displays of appreciation to non-socialists really annoys the left!  And that time of annoyance is priceless!

 
P. S. I am reminded that George W. Bush also bequeathed to us two life time appointments in the form of Samuel Alito and John Roberts who look to be as good as their first impression (a rare feat for republican nominees). We shan’t be seeing their like again anytime soon.
