ECONOMIC LITERACY: A SEMINAR

Can you explain why some tax cuts (Bush's second term, Obama's proposed) do absolutely nothing to stimulate the economy, while others (Reagan's, Bush's first term) provide a great stimulus?

Were you taught in High School that the federal government needs to protect consumers from corporate monopolies that would otherwise be able to charge whatever they wanted?

Were you taught that Roosevelt's New Deal saved the country by intervening in the economy and "stimulating" demand?

Would you be surprised to learn that the economic theories espoused by the current administration and congressional leaders were conclusively disproved more than 100 years ago?

   

At Free Market Warrior we talk to thousands of patriotic Americans (both traditional conservatives and libertarians) who know instinctively that high taxes and ever expanding government are wrong and detrimental to American prosperity. Most, however, are hard pressed to explain the economic principles behind their convictions. Schools don’t teach economics anymore. And in most universities the economics departments are stacked with left wing lunatics who attract like-minded students but repel everyone else.

The result has been that "economists" have become an elite cadre that presides over matters far too complex for ordinary Americans to understand.  These sophisticated technocrats (many of whom can't accurately complete their own tax return) are sent out to tell the American people that if the government does not take an amount of money equivalent to the entire aggregate income of the State of North Carolina for the next five years, and hand it out to the friends of Washington politicians, than our economy will collapse. And the average American is left to bow to their "expertise".

At Free Market Warrior, we firmly believe that the first step toward redeeming our country is through education. If we want to reclaim our nation as a free republic, with a limited government, we must become again the kind of citizens who are ready to take responsibility for our own destiny. The truth is that it isn’t that hard to understand the principles of market economics, with the right teacher. Free Market Warrior founder, Loren Spivack has a remarkable gift for explaining the fundamentals of both free market and socialist economic models and how these ideas relate to the issues of our times, from medical care to outsourcing. While the seminar is open to all interested citizens, it is especially designed for conservatives, libertarians and constitutionalists who want to acquire the tools necessary to win their arguments with liberal friends, neighbors and co-workers. It will also give participants a greater appreciation of the workings of freedom and free markets.  No one who experiences this will want to risk either one again.

OUTLINE OF THE SEMINAR: 

Whether held in one day or spread out over multiple sessions, the seminar will be divided into 4 parts:

  1. Intellectual and Historical Roots of Socialism: Understanding its broad appeal
  2. The Intellectual and Historical Roots of Capitalism: Why we'll starve without it.
  3. The Source of Value: Two contrasting views with implications that explain everything else
  4. Applying the Principles of Freedom to the Problems of Today: Taxes, Education, Health care, Trade-protectionism and outsourcing.
